Message from Longrigg – Year 5 and 6 Residential

With thanks to all our staff, as well those from Ravensworth, our children have just had a brilliant residential visit.  As you can see from the visit report below all of the children, as well as the staff, have had a thoroughly enjoyable time
The visiting staff worked hard to ensure that the trip was a success and I’d like to thank them for bringing the students away.
The group had a great week with ascents of Winder, caving in Yordas, Ribblehead and Long Churn, canoeing at Killington Reservoir, climbing at Ingleton Quarry and also Ingleton Wall, gorge scrambling in Barbondale and getting behind Thornton Force. They responded well to the mixed weather we had and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Throughout the week children were encouraged to be independent and to help one another e.g. putting on harnesses and helmets, buoyancy aids etc. It came as a surprise to some of them to have to make their own beds when they arrived but when they persevered they were successful. This theme ran through the week and the children gained confidence to face each challenge and their language changed from ‘I can’t…’ to ‘I can…’ or ‘how do I…?’
The students mixed really well during the week and some great new friendships were made.
