Building a Sukkah

Building a Sukkah

Class 2 to have been learning about the Jewish festival of Sukkot and Shavuot. These festivals celebrate ‘harvest’ and the time when they escaped the desert after spending 40 years living in a hut like building.

We also found out about Moses and him sharing the 10 commandments. There are similarities with Jewish people and Christians because their special book is our Old Testament

First class 1 and class 2 went outside to the adventure playground to decide where to make the sukkah. We decided to put the sukkah on the decking with the fence as one wall because the sukkah had to have a natural roof and at least three walls.

Finally, it was time to build the sukkah with our teachers. This is what we needed to build the sukkah:

  • Tarpaulin
  • Wool/string
  • Seats
  • Snacks
  • Wood
  • Bamboo
  • Plants

We had a great time! Ben and Daniel made some jam sandwiches whilst Mrs. Simpson chopped up some apples. We had a feast outside, in our sukkah, under the beautiful autumn sunshine.

Thanks to Mrs. Wilson for bringing in the special grasses we used for the roof.
